Diane & Children,
The athletic accolade fraternity here cherishes verbal combat as to who was the best in sports locally over the last 70 years , more or less. Allow me to state that from my slant, Butch was the most heralded Little League phenom as a pitcher/hitter/fielder combination. When pitching vs. him,I actually tried to convince my manager to walk Butch with the bases loaded, & true to form, he hit a grand slam over the lights. By today's standards it would be known as a moon shot
Even more impressive was Butch's humble character. He never boasted about any of his accomplishments & talents. On several occasions I verbalized to him how incredible & unparalleled his combination of pitching velocity & control were.
For the many who knew him, he never focused the limelight towards himself, which is hard to resist as a teenager. He & Diane raised 3 wonderful children, & now that he is gone physically, we can still see remnants of him in each of them. All of us who ever needed a role model as to how to handle special talents, only needed to look no further than Butch DeCicco. That grand slam is still circling somewhere over the Hammonton Lake.

I am so sorry to hear of Butch’s passing. He worked with our family on my dad’s farm when we all young and was a friend of my brother John. I know they will meet in heaven and continue that friendship. RIP Butch.
