Obituary of Ernest Edward Clifford
Please share a memory of Ernest to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ernest E. Clifford, 70, former Hammonton resident died July 18, 2021 in Cheyenne, Wyoming with his son by his side.
Mr. Clifford was born April 1, 1951 in Audobon, PA to Ernest and Anna (Pluck) Clifford.
He graduated from Interboro High School in Prospect Park, PA. After graduation he interned for a newspaper as a printing apprentice and realized very soon that being indoors all day was not for him. He became a truck driver where he could be outside and on the open road. One of his first jobs in trucking was at Donio Trucking in Hammonton.
He met the love of his life Anna Bell Ayars in 1973 and helped raise her three boys, Paul, Jimmy and Harry. He loved those boys as if they were his own. On February 2, 1984 they were married. Ernest lived in Hammonton for over 30 years and was owner/operator of ABClifford Auto Transport.
He was known by many nicknames, Cucumber, Eddie, EE, whatever you called him when you called he would be there. He didn't have much but what he had he shared with his friends and family generously. He was a man of few words but you would always hear him say "Am I right or wrong?" when he was trying to make a point or "I'll see you when I see you" when he was going on the road. Also, if he didn't tease you, he probably didn't like you because that was his way.
Mr. Clifford was preceded in death by his beloved wife Anna Belle Clifford(Hensley). His sons Harry and James Ayars, and his parents Ernest and Anna (Pluck) Clifford.
He is survived by his son Silvio Paul Ayars and his wife Christy. His grandsons Joseph Michael Ayars and his wife Belinda, Michael, Paul, and Ethan Ayars, his granddaughter Madeline Ayars, and his great grandchildren, Donovan, Dracin and Daniella Ayars. He made some lifelong friends in Hammonton but moved to Cheyenne, WY to retire and spend time with his grandkids. Charles Restuccio, Rosemary Restuccio, and Russell Pluck were among the friends and family he held dear and continued to tease even from 1500 miles away.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 from 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third Street in Hammonton, where funeral services will take place at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery, 124 S. First Road in Hammonton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to mygooddays.org or to the charity of your choice.
