Obituary of Clarence Mays, Sr.

Clarence Mays, Sr., 86 of Egg Harbor City, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Born in Pike County, Georgia to the late John and Annie Mae Mays. Clarence was a resident of Atlantic County for many years. He was employed by DadSon Farms of Hammonton, NJ for 40 years, Tim Brennan Construction Co. in Woodbine, NJ, Ocean Spray, Chatsworth, NJ and American Flux Metals Elm, NJ.
Clarence was a member of Greater Love Chapel COGIC in Elwood, NJ. His hobbies included being a member of the GWRRA-Gold Wing Road Riders Association Chapter-E, Somers Point, NJ. He was an Honorary member of the Family Friend's Community Choir. Clarence enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren wrestle and play sports, and he loved going to Gospel singings.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eliza Mae Mays, his siblings, Estella Mays, Lizzie Mae Foster, Charlie Prince Mays, Lena Bell Alexander, Charlie "Bubba" Mays and Annie Pearl Smith; his children, Evelyn Nelson, Sam Travis and Tawanna Lightburn. Clarence is survived by his 11 children, Maryann Bennett, Jeannette Emory (Andrew),Levon Spellman, Synomia Corbin, Gwendolyn Parrilla, Juanita Spellman, Clarence Mays, Jr. (Jane), Vincent Mays (Carol), Chris Mays (Patricia), Dwayne Mays (Christine) and Geravia Solomon, 49 grandchildren, 85 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, two Goddaughters, Stacey Cain (Lan) and Katrina Moore. He is also survived by a special niece Judy Cunningham and his caregivers,/Goddaughters, Natasha Collier and Lillie Mae Green, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023, 11:00 am at Greater Love Chapel Church 279 Prince Albert St., Elwood, NJ where a viewing will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Elwood Rural Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations to help with funeral expenses would be greatly appreciated by the Mays family.
