Lucille and I go back a long way, 61 years. She loved her dogs, cats, and her African Grey parrot. We played softball together for a few years, and I sat while she educated me on “healthy supplements”. Her goal was to live to 100, she came close. She loved her son, David, and her daughter, Sandy. I was lucky to speak with her fairly often while she was hospitalized and she told me how proud she was of her kids, and how kind David’s wife had been. Living in Boston and being 83, I don’t get down to NJ much, and I regret that. Rest in Peace dear friend, you lived a full life and you did it your way.

There were so many wonderful aspects to Lucille, she was always a positive thinker no matter what the circumstance or that issue was she believed it would all work out. She saw the light at the end of the tunnel. A bright cheery human who was so knowledgeable in so many areas and she was always willing to give of her time and knowledge to help others in any way she could.
She loved all creatures but she loved her dogs more than anything.
When I met her in 2002 at Gloria’s home she was warm and friendly and welcoming. We spoke for a large part of the afternoon about life…,I truly believe if it wasn’t for her intervening on my behalf that my first pup “Barak” wouldn’t have been mine. She was a great mentor, she was a friend to me and a driving force in the Silken Windhound Breed.
The light in her soul is now free and I believe she is reunited with all her beloved ones who passed before her.
Be at Peace Lucille

Sending love to Lucille and all who knew her. Like many others, I am forever grateful to Lucille for sharing with me the gift of love in the form of a Silken Windhound. Lucille was honest, smart, and hilarious. I will never forget how she ran down the road with the pups about 6 years ago. I hope I live to be in my 80’s and can run like her at that age. Thank you for bringing so much good into the world, Lucille! Odette loves you and I can never thank you enough for sharing her with me.
You will be remembered often,
Brittany, Odette, and Merce

Grandmom Lucille used to always say she was going to live to 100 years and always believed she was going to hit the lottery big one day. She truly believed it, so it made everyone else around her believe it, too.
The first Italian word I learned from her was bye/hello. She always ended her phone calls saying “Ciao!” or, “See ya later alligator.”
I experienced my first dog show with her back when I was in elementary school (?) and met my friend Ariana (daughter of her friend, Gloria) there. I had such a blast that day and remember it so vividly… I wish I could go back to that day.
My grandmom gave me my first guitar because she knew how badly I wanted to take guitar lessons. I cherish that acoustic Guild guitar more than ever.
We shared a lot more of the same interest, such as photography and dog training. She gave me TWO of her digital cameras, one of which is a Canon Rebel that I still have to this day! And my first dog training book came from her, after she saw how enamored I was by her book collection. She wrote a personalized message in that book which was called The Other End of the Leash by Patricia P. McConnell, Ph.D:
“To Valerie,
When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
"If we are peaceful, if we are happy, we can smile and blossom like a flower, and everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace."
With love,
Grandmom Lucille
12-25-2012”
I learned about the wonderful Silken Windhound breed from her. A few of her original dogs that I was particularly fond of were Nikayla (SUPER energetic and had a humorous personality), Torrie (a taller Silken with the calmest, sweetest demeanor), Belgium (shy, but incredibly loving), and Austen (a mellow, loyal boy). Austen actually was going to be my dog. We did a trial run with him and everything went great, but my Grandmom decided she couldn’t part ways with him. She really loved that dog.
I remember her dog Bijou jumped/ran off her balcony and landed wrong and became paralyzed. Some people doubted she would be able to walk again. I used to come over and help my grandmom do physical therapy exercises with her, and other times she’d take her to the vet for acupuncture and other therapies. Do you know, due to her determination, that dog was able to walk again?! I believe in miracles because of that.
Out of desperation one day, I asked my grandmom a question that I really thought she would say no to and think I was crazy for even asking. I used to run a pit bull rescue and had two dogs I was trying to find homes for that seemed to be an impossible task. I asked her if there was anyway I could build a kennel on her property until I could find them homes. She gave me a portion of her property to keep my dogs there, and in return I would mow her property and do other things for her and her dogs.
My grandmom used to write beautiful memoirs for all of her dogs after they would pass away. I have copies of a few of them. I loved that she did that, so I started doing it for my pets, and now I’m writing one for her, as she deserves.
I will hold these memories of her in my heart forever.
Love you Grandmom ❤️

I knew Lucille for a quarter of a century. We met at the 1st Silken Fest. I still remember sitting among all the Kristull puppies helping Lucille choose the one to go back to NJ with her. That pup became the 1st Windsporit Silken Windhound. Her contributions to the breed and the international breed club are countless. May she revel in reuniting with her dogs who have gone before. Your contribution and your friendship will be missed.

Our family will remain forever grateful to Lucille for boarding our dogs (starting with Bolívar and Belina, who are no longer with us, and later, Sierra and Soleá) when she was in good health, and most importantly, giving us our precious Soleá.
Lucille was rich in the love she received from her dogs and her friends and neighbors and lived a full life. One cannot ask for more.
May you rest in peace, Lucille. You will be missed…

Q: How did you meet Lucille?
A: I met Lucille at the 2002 Silkenfest in New Jersey. She was the first person to greet me when I entered the door that early Saturday morning with my Silken, Manny. Lucille was a very compassionate woman, loving all and all loving her. Lucille will be missed greatly. ❤️ Vickie
