Obituary of Fred H. Long

Fred H. Long, 85, of Hammonton passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, Feb. 18. Born and raised in Absecon he resided in Hammonton since 1951. He was a self-employed oil burner service technician for 30 years. Fred, also retired from the South Jersey Transportation Authority(A.C. Expressway) as a toll collector after 13 years of service. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 186 in Hammonton. Fred was the Past Grand Knight of St. Vincent Pallotti Council #3471 and Past Faithful Navigator of Pallotti Assembly. He was a Graduate of Holy Spirit High School Class of 1945. He was a devout Catholic and he would often be seen around St. Martin de Porres RC Church lending a helping hand preparing for Masses and serving on the altar during Funeral Masses. Fred will be forever loved and long remembered as a loving and devoted self-less husband, father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather and dear friend. Fred will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Connie Long (nee Valentino), his children, Freddie Long and his wife Mary of Hammonton, Fred Long of Pennsylvania, Steve Long of Tampa, FL, Michael Long of Hammonton, Patty Kowalewski and her husband Packy of Pleasantville; 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, his sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 11:30a. in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish, Church of St. Anthony of Padua, 285 Route 206, where a viewing will be held from 9:30am until 11:30am. Entombment will follow in Greenmount Cemetery, Hammonton. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Fred's memory to his family.
