Margaret Marie Pettigrew Stratton was born on March 14, 1930 in Campbell County, Virginia. She was an only child to Ashby and Ethel Robinson Pettigrew. Margaret attended school in Concord, Virginia up until the family relocated to Brooklyn, New York. Margaret met and married Norvell Lester Stratton in Lynchburg, VA in June 1948. From this union nine children were born. Norvell Lamont Stratton (Enid), Timothy Lester Stratton (Rhonda), Gina Norvella Brown (Melvin) all of Vineland, New Jersey, Sharon Diane Boose (Allen - Deceased), Anthony Vincent Stratton (Serena), Catherine Jeanine Hannah (Elbert) all of Williamstown, New Jersey, Flossie Alicia Garrett (Charles) of Mays Landing, New Jersey, Margretta Elaine Harris (Rufus) of Concord, Virginia and Kim Francine Jones (Greg) of Richmond, Virginia, twenty five grandchildren, fifty-eight great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Norvell and Margaret both attended the Kingdom Hall in Rustburg, Virginia. She was baptized as Jehovah's Witness in 1958. When not in Virginia Margaret's home away from home was in New Jersey where she attended the Kingdom Hall in Hammonton.
Margaret was predeceased by her husband Norvell in 1999, three sisters in law, and one brother, Elmor Jordan. She is also survived by eight brothers, Robert Jordan, James Jordan, Charles Jordan, Norman Jordan, Stewart Jordan, Phillip Jordan, Danny Jordan, Joseph Jordan, two sisters in law, Vermont Arrington and Catherine McCoy. She is also survived by her special cousin, Barbara Payne and her companion dog Asia.
Margaret worked at various jobs which include The Vineland Developmental Center in New Jersey, VA Baptist, West Minister Canterbury and Guggenhiemer Nursing Home in Lynchburg, VA. She received her license degree in 1985. Being a nurse brought her great joy and was what she would call as "rewarding." Margaret strongly felt that helping others was honoring Jehovah and that brought her joy.
Margaret was greatly loved and adored by all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family meant everything to her and she raised her children to be there for one another in good and in bad times, in return they raised their children with the same morals and values. She was a strong woman who loved her children and they were her life and she was each and everyone of theirs. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
Memorial Services will be held Monday March 10, 2014, 200PM in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 4747 White Horse Pike, Mullica Twp., NJ.
