Obituary of Rita A. Barkus

Rita Agnes (Moffa) Barkus, 83, passed away on December 13, 2010, in Tallahassee, Florida on due to complications following a stroke.
Rita was born on May 18, 1927 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the parents of Helen and Anthony Moffa, Sr. She had 3 sisters: Josephine, Mary and Georgiana; and 1 brother, Anthony "Butch" Moffa. Rita is a graduate of Hallahan High School, and the school of nursing at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia. She worked as a nursing supervisor at Hahnemann Hospial and associate instructor at the Metropolitan Hospital of Philadelphia. While in Dallas, Texas Rita was inservice instructor/nursing supervisor at Parkland Hospital. She was on duty at Parkland when President John F. Kennedy and Texas Governor John B. Connally were shot and brought to Parkland. In Miami, Rita worked for Cedars of Lebanon Hospital and for North Shore Medical Center as the director of education. She was also the director of professional services at Upjohn Healthcare. In 1985 Rita moved to Tallahassee, Florida and worked for the State of Florida in the Department on Health and Rehabilitative Services, Child Abuse Registry as a senior program specialist
Rita is survived by her son, Dennis Moffa; daughter, Dana Marie Campbell; grandchildren, Nicholas, Brenna, and Bailey Campbell and her sisters, Mary Kay Prisco and Georgiana Fleischman.
A Memorial mass will be held on December 23, 2010 at 11:00 am in the St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish atSt Martin De Porres Church in Hammonton, NJ. Graveside service will immediately follow in the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery.
